Twin Peaks (of Exhaustion)

This weekend, I woke up on Saturday, and Henry said "Hey, do you want to hike a mountain today?" How could I say no? We packed a backpack with the essentials-- water, jackets, and blueberries of course – and set out into the city. We started smack in the middle of downtown San Francisco 4 miles away from Twin Peaks. It was a beautiful day to walk through a bunch of neighborhoods we hadn't seen yet, and we were up for the endurance challenge.
When we finally made it to the top of Twin Peaks, I was blown away, literally. It was so windy, but so worth it! You could see everything from the Golden Gate Bridge, to the full stretch of Market Street, to the Ferry Building, to East Bay. Henry and I sat at the top for about 30 minutes and then decided we better get a move on if we wanted to make it home before dark.
And as it turned out, with no surprise, going back down was much more difficult than walking up. The decline in San Francisco sidewalks is vicious! I didn't realize my knees were taking such an impact until we sat down for dinner in Hayes Valley and one of them locked up. Since we were still three blocks from the apartment, I got to piggy back on Henry's back all the way home as he ran across the intersections with me! By the time we got home, we were both exhausted! As predicted, we got to be content couch potatoes on Sunday. :)
